A virtual wedding in a time of need
Virtual weddings might have seemed like an odd concept years ago, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed everyone’s perception of it. Due to stringent anti-infection measures applied in different countries, many couples had to postpone their nuptials to comply. Thankfully, there is now an option to conduct a virtual wedding ceremony.
While this is a new norm, guests are baffled on what is expected from them if they attend. Read on to see what basic etiquette rules need to be followed and impress friends with your newfound knowledge!
Dress to Impress
Everyone would agree that part of the fun in attending a wedding is choosing the perfect outfit. But what does one wear to an event that’s held online? According to Simply Eloped’s Janessa White, guests should still dress to the nines when attending a virtual wedding.
Whether it’s black-tie or smart casual, it’s best to follow the dress code to be on the safe side. The bride and groom will be grateful in the end as it will most likely be a recorded celebration.
Inviting A Plus One Might Be Awkward

Having a plus one to a virtual event might seem like a good idea since the couple won’t be spending a single cent but think hard before making this big decision. A wedding, virtual or otherwise, is still a private event. It might not be a good idea to introduce a stranger to the newlyweds.
In the instance where you really want to have a plus one, inform the couple ahead and respect whatever decision that may arise in the end.
To Gift or Not to Gift?

Is gift-giving expected even for virtual weddings? Yes, and thanks to the wonders of a digital gift registry, it is quicker and easier for guests to pick a gift without leaving the comforts of their home. Mailing a card, check, or even sending a bouquet of flowers is also an acceptable way to convey your best wishes.
Just remember that this is an optional gesture, so don’t feel pressured about giving a gift.
Be on Time
Whether a friend or a family member, the most important thing one can do for the soon-to-be couple is to be on time. This gives everyone a chance to mingle with other guests virtually, and it sets the wedding mood right.
Times have changed, but one thing is left certain – love knows no boundaries. There will always be a way to celebrate life, even in the middle of a global crisis.
